Jonathan is a photographer and poet living on the Mendocino coast. His world is a place of mystery—filled with hidden meanings—waiting to be revealed in moody, introspective photographs and poems. His evocative photos have been published in literary anthologies along with his poems, and his chapbook “Seven Dimensions of the Unseen,” which combines his ekphrastic poetry with his own abstract images is available on Amazon, and locally at the Mendocino Coast Photographer Gallery.
In 2011 Jonathan left his New York City law firm to pursue his artistic goals which led him through origami furniture, computer aided collage and ultimately to abstract photography. After running the Gardiner Open Studio Tour in the Hudson Valley for four years, as chairman, public relations lead, and fundraiser, he moved with his wife, Andrea McFarland, to Mendocino in 2018.

The result of months of experimentation and outdoor shooting was a series of semi-abstract pinhole seascape images which were later shown, along with several new ekphrastic poems, at a solo exhibition at the Mendocino Art Center in November 2019. A few months later he was invited to join the Mendocino Coast Photographer Gallery in Fort Bragg, CA. Since then he has been developing his expressive style while exploring more both more conventional images as well as infrared photography, black & white, and other techniques in service of his effort to deepen his explorations of the amazing landscapes, seascapes, and forests of Northern California and convey it to others.
