Kara Starkweather

Kara Starkweather is a dancer, choreographer, director, dance educator and art advocate living on the Mendocino Coast. She received her BFA in Dance and Spanish at the University of California at Davis and holds a Level 4 Certificate in Approaches to Dance for People with Parkinson’s from People Dancing, the Foundation for Community Dance. Rooted in a deep sense of place, Kara’s work is guided by the land itself. She believes movement is more than expression, it is a practice for living. Kara is the founder and director of Mendocino Dance Project, a local dance organization bringing the power of dance to rural communities in Northern California. She has worked with Bandaloop, Flynn Creek Circus, Blind Tiger Society,  DiRT & GLiTTER, Symphony of the Redwoods, the Mendocino Film Festival, and Gloriana Opera Company and has served on the Arts Council of Mendocino County Board since 2018.
