Get Arts in the Schools Program (GASP)

The Get Arts in the Schools Program was an arts education program that ran from 2005-2026. GASP funded artist workshops and live performances in Mendocino County schools during the school year. The goal of the program was to infuse the arts in the core curriculum and to deliver quality, educational, curriculum-based artistic experiences to K-12 students throughout Mendocino County. In 2022, California voters passed Proposition 28, the Arts and Music in Schools (AMS) initiative that guarantees roughly $1 billion in ongoing annual funding to expand arts education in public and charter schools throughout the state. Many schools are now funding arts education through Prop 28 and with a portion of Prop 28 funding they are able to actively hire artists from the community for special arts enrichment programs.
