“I have drawn and painted since I was four years old, younger if you count scribbles. Several family friends were artists who encouraged me to pursue art as a vocation. I had the good fortune to attend UC Berkeley in the early 1960’s when there were still Abstract Expressionists on the art faculty.”
Esther Siegel & Spencer Brewer: “New Assemblage Creations”
Spencer Brewer is a storyteller, crafting stories either through his musical compositions or assemblage art sculptures. They all take us on a journey. He creates ‘High Whimsey’ – fantastical pieces of sculptures out of vintage or unusual objects inspiring viewers with a sense of delight, surprise and wonder.
Esther Siegel works in stages, starting with a flurry of ideas and arrangements. Often, she has two or three pieces started, moving from one to the other. Inspiration may come from visual resources, feedback, and browsing through the artist’s collection of “stuff” in their barn art studio.
Edgewater welcomes: Richard Weiss: “Optical Illusions”
Richard Weiss, a French native and California painter, has established his home on the captivating Mendocino coast, where he has honed his craft in creating mesmerizing 3D optical illusion paintings. Infused with vibrant hues and intricate details, his whimsical Pop Art style exudes a sense of joy while subtly poking fun at societal quirks and addressing pressing social and cultural concerns. Weiss cleverly juxtaposes icons, symbols, and elements of popular culture in unexpected settings, inviting viewers to partake in a playful exploration of his compositions. With a desire to surprise and engage his audience, Weiss cultivates an experience that transcends age barriers, delighting both adults and children alike with his imaginative creations.

Mary Ann Nation: “Plain Air Landscapes”
For her works, Mary Ann Nation uses only a palette knife with water mixable oils. Most of her paintings are done plein air at her favorite spaces, or at locations of her commissioners’ choices.
“Painting has become for me a way to capture nature
as I see it, and thus to be able to share its beauty with others. I was fortunate to have classes with several very talented artists, such as Hope Stevenson, Erin Dertner and Susan Sarback, who all contributed to my style of loose, impressionistic landscapes and seascapes.”
All exhibitions will be on view from August 1 – September 4, 2024.
Opening Reception: Friday, August 2, 2024 from 5-8PM, light refreshments will be served.
