… in the DRBU Building second-floor lounge. Venerable Shide an artist and monastic whose work transforms inner stillness into visual form.
Rooted in the tranquility and joy of Zen meditation, her calligraphy, painting, seal carving, and ceramics embody the harmony of nature and Zen, where artistic expression and spiritual cultivation flow as one. During the Arts Talk, Venerable Shide will demonstrate her artistic process live, creating works before our eyes, and a selection of her artworks will also be displayed. This is a rare opportunity to experience art as both practice and offering, alive in the present moment.
Venerable Shide (Dharma name Shi Ru Jian 釋如撿) graduated at the top of her class in calligraphy and seal carving at the National Taiwan University of Arts, studying under Wang Beiyue, Liang Naiyu, and Master Ruyu. In her early monastic life, she devoted ten years to the study and practice of precepts, meditation, and wisdom under the guidance of Master Hongyi. After the 9/21 earthquake in Taiwan, she returned to brush and ink, letting her art give voice to the depth of a world shaken and renewed.
