On Thursday, August 20 at 7pm The Third Thursday Poetry & Jazz Reading Series will feature performance poet/lyricist Timeless Toni. Located at The Record at 265 Main Street in downtown Point Arena, the reading begins with live improv jazz, followed by a featured reading with the musicians accompanying Bernardo, then an open mic with jazz improv, and finally the reading concludes with more live improv jazz. Poets, storytellers and musicians are welcome.
Timeless Toni is a poet, lyricist, turntablist, and multidisciplinary artist whose work lives at the intersection of spoken word, hip-hop, and rhythm-driven verse. His performances weave intricate rhyme schemes with vivid storytelling, exploring the ways history shapes the present while imagining new futures through art, science, and sound.
On August 20th will debut his first self-published collection, Poetic Static. Spanning twenty-one poems written over twenty-one years, Poetic Static is an existential journey through time, tracing personal evolution alongside the shifting structures of society.
Away from the microphone, Timeless Toni digs for samples, develops his live hip-hop project DRUM n TREES, and explores the foundational art of turntablism. Over the past decade, he has released two studio albums and numerous singles as co-founder of the record label Historik & The Guerrilla Radio, cultivating a body of work that blends gritty lyricism, improvisation, live instrumentation and genre-bending beats.
Professionally, he has spent the past twelve years at the University of California, Berkeley as an Organizational Consultant, following more than two decades working in Genetics and Engineering Sciences. Based in Gualala, California, Timeless Toni continues to build bridges between poetry, music, and performance, expanding the possibilities of contemporary spoken word on California’s North Coast. Copies of the publication Poetic Static will be available at the August 20th performance.
