Lincoln Andrews Quartet

This dynamic jazz ensemble brings together soulful expression, deep groove, and adventurous improvisation for an evening that moves effortlessly between listening and dancing. Featuring trumpet, soprano sax, upright bass, and drums, the group explores a wide-ranging repertoire of classic jazz standards, modern jazz, and Latin jazz, all delivered with a spirit that is fun, heartfelt, and immersive. Each performance is shaped in the moment, inviting the audience into a shared musical journey full of energy, nuance, and spontaneity.

Leading the emotional arc of the music is Matt Rothstein, praised by DownBeat magazine as an emerging jazz vocalist, whose playing carries a spiritual depth and narrative quality that draws listeners in with every solo. Trumpeter Carlos Hernandez, a recent graduate of the University of Music in Puerto Rico, brings vibrant Latin influence and youthful fire, using an array of mutes, extended techniques, and even percussion to create unique textures and irresistibly danceable moments. On drums, Mendocino local Gabriel Yanez anchors the group with versatility and drive, effortlessly shifting between jazz, funk, Afrobeat, and Latin styles. Rounding out the ensemble is bassist Lincoln Andrews, another Mendocino native and seasoned world traveler whose experiences throughout Asia, Mexico, and the Middle East inform his rich musical voice—equally at home laying down a swinging walking bass line or creating spacious, textural soundscapes with the bow as a recent symphony member. Together, the group delivers a soulful, grooving, and deeply engaging jazz experience.
